Honestly, I think he sounds sweet but he shouldn't have to think much about you not wanting to french kiss. Maybe a day, at the most, if he really loved you I think he would be fine with it. What happens, happens and you shouldn't force it. The update was most likely about you. He may not "love, as in, I want to marry you, or I can see us having kids" I love you, but I think it is a "love you, you make me happy" (which comes before the other I love you)
